Updates from the Headmaster

A Note from the Headmaster

Happy Friday Gladiator Families! Welcome back! We are so grateful to be back in school- both in person and online. It is clear that everyone was able to disconnect from school and technology over break and focus on themselves and family. Everyone seems to have returned refreshed and ready to tackle the challenges that await this semester. We are a strong community of educators, families, and students and I know that we can continue to experience success together.

This quarter NPX will have three asynchronous, remote learning days: Friday January 29, Monday February 22, and Wednesday March 3. These days will help teachers to prepare, grade, and have a break from screen time. All students will access their assignments through google classroom so please reach out if you have any questions about how to access their account.

Reminders and Action Items

Picture Retake Day Date Change

Picture retake day and the 8th grade group picture are now being rescheduled. We will let everyone know as soon as a new date is on the calendar. Thank you for your flexibility and understanding.

Greatful Hearts Campaign

The Greatful Hearts Campaign (formerly called Snowstorm) has begun!  Now through February 10th, the PSO will be accepting monetary donations to be dispersed to NPX teachers on Friday, February 12th. Foam hearts will also be offered to students so they can write their favorite teacher or staff member a note. Deposit your hearts at the tree along the prep building curb.

Please help shower our teachers with gratitude!

After School Pick Up Reminders

Parents,

parking in front of the administration building doors between 2:30 and 3:45 is not permitted. We ask that if you should need to drop off or pick up any items, that you park your car in the designated visitor guest parking spaces. If you can not make it to our school before 2:30, you will need to make other arrangements. The dismissal process begins at 2:30-setting up cones, loading zones etc. With this high traffic volume we need to streamline as much traffic as possible in order to have a safe and efficient dismissal for all parents.

Additionally, please remember: unauthorized use of the Elks Lodge Parking Lot is not permitted at any time. This lot is private property and may only be used by Elks Lodge members. Thank you in advance.

Drive-Thru Covid Testing

Tuesday, January 19th, from 9:30 am-11:30 am

Please drive up to the north side of the Archway building (drop-off and pick-up lane). Have your ID and proof of insurance with you.

Great Hearts has secured a unique partnership with Phoenix-based Premier Lab Solutions to provide on-campus, at-home, and ongoing COVID testing to all Great Hearts faculty and staff throughout the 2020-2021 school year. As a part of this partnership, testing is also available to Great Hearts families.

The test administered will be the PCR anterior nares test, which is non-invasive and quick. Tests will be processed at Premier’s local lab with results provided directly to a personalized and private patient portal no more than 72 hours after administered.

To participate in this testing, we recommend that you pre-register to make the day-of testing process as quick as possible for you. Please click here to find out more information on how to navigate the pre-registration process and other details that you need to be aware of to participate. The form will need to be completed for each person within your household that will be getting tested.

Reflections from the Blazer and Pinning Ceremony

This past Friday the annual Blazer and Pinning Ceremony was held at NPX. Below a senior and a junior reflect on why it was a significant event for them.

Senior Charli Jarrell writes:

This upcoming May marks a bittersweet end for the class of 2021; representing both a pivotal moment and the closing of a chapter. To acknowledge this significant accomplishment, the seniors received their class pins from both parents and faculty at the annual pinning ceremony this past Friday. Yes, while their pins do symbolize their graduation year, they also signify all the years before that: every hour spent studying for tests and writing essays, every memory made, and every lesson learned in between. These pins may seem like odd little trinkets to look back on in 20 years with only vague fondness, but in reality, they encapsulate every little moment of growth that has made the class of 2021 what they are today.

Junior Jack Miller reflects:

The blazer ceremony was amazing! After watching it for the past several years, it was so great to be able to carry on this awesome and unique NPX tradition! These blazers are a great representation of all the hard work that my peers and I have put in over the years, and it’s such an honor to be recognized.

Reminders

  • Senior parents: please make sure that you complete your FAFSA by January 31st.
  • Class of 2022 students will meet 1:1 with Mrs. Martin to game plan for next year.

Respectfully,

Mrs. Tier Martin, College Counselor
