Updates from the Headmaster

Welcome Mr. Latham!

Welcome Mr. Latham! As you may have heard, we have a new face on campus. Mr. Latham is teaching Junior and Senior Drama. Mr. Latham comes to us with vast experience and knowledge in teaching and acting. Mr. Latham has spent the last 15 years performing for the Southwest Shakespeare Company & Childsplay Theatre, teaching theater at the National Performers Academy, and substitute teaching for the Mesa School District. He earned his Bachelor’s of Science with a focus in Theatre Performance and Political Science from NAU and is currently finishing his Teaching Certification. We are grateful to add him to our faculty this year!

Semester 2 Reminders

Updates for in-person learners:

  • Lunch and Lyceum zones will be adjusted due to more students on campus.
  • Please continue to keep your child home if you suspect illness; however, if your child is absent, it is not guaranteed that they will be able to ZOOM into class. Students coded as in-person learners are marked absent, even if they ZOOM into class.
  • If your child is absent due to quarantine, we may temporarily change his or her schedule to allow for virtual learning.
  • Each quarter we will add approximately 3 days of fully remote, asynchronous learning. Dates are forthcoming.
  • If you are new to campus, be sure to update yourself on all in-person learning policies and procedures.

Updates for distance learners:

  • Distance learners will see the following changes to their coursework and virtual classroom experience:
    • An increase in asynchronous work, particularly in fine arts courses.
    • An increase in projects and independent work.
  • If you are new to distance learning, be sure to update yourself on all distance-learning policies and procedures.
  • If you have logged into class after the first 10 minutes, you will likely be marked absent.
  • Please reach out to your teachers or the front office if you are experiencing technical difficulties.
  • If you need a Chromebook, please alert Ms. Nelson, our Office Manager, as soon as possible, as we have a limited number available at this time.

An important note: Students may not switch between In-person Learning and Distance Learning during the second semester.

Updated Protocol for Quarantine and Close Contact

North Phoenix Prep’s updated COVID-19 response guidelines reflects the most recent changes published by the CDC. If your scholar has come in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, or receives a positive test themselves, please inform the attendance line. Someone from the school will reach out to you to go over the next steps.

Please see below for the most recent updates regarding quarantine for close contact scenarios.

New Guidelines:

For Close Contacts when isolation from the positive individual is possible:

  • Quarantine can end after Day 10 without testing if no symptoms have been reported during daily monitoring. Stay home for 10 full days and return on day 11.
  • Quarantine can end after Day 7 if a diagnostic specimen tests negative that was taken within 48 hours of Day 7, and if no symptoms have been reported during daily monitoring. Stay home for 7 full days and return on day 8.
  • From Day 8 or Day 11-14, the individual must practice social distancing, mask wearing, hand washing, and continue daily monitoring for symptoms. If they develop symptoms, they must immediately go back into quarantine.
  • If mild to moderate symptoms develop during quarantine, return 10 days after first symptoms appeared and 24 hours of being fever free without medication, and 20 days if symptoms are severe to critical or patient is severely immunocompromised.

For Close Contacts when isolation from the positive individual is not possible:

  • Exposed individual is quarantined off campus for 10 days from last day of isolation of any household member with COVID-19.
  •  If mild to moderate symptoms develop return 10 days after first symptoms appeared and 24 hours of being fever free without medication, and 20 days if symptoms are severe to critical or patient is severely immunocompromised.
  • Exposed individual may return earlier if they test negative at least five days after the isolation period of the infected family member has ended.

Greatful Hearts Campaign

The Greatful Hearts Campaign (formerly called Snowstorm) has begun!  Now through February 10th, the PSO will be accepting monetary donations to be dispersed to NPX teachers on Friday, February 12th. Foam hearts will also be offered to students so they can write their favorite teacher or staff member a note. Stay tuned about where to deposit your completed hearts.

Please help shower our teachers with gratitude!

Drive-Thru Covid Testing

Tuesday, January 19th, from 9:30 am-11:30 am

Please drive up to the north side of the Archway building (drop-off and pick-up lane). Have your ID and proof of insurance with you.

Great Hearts has secured a unique partnership with Phoenix-based Premier Lab Solutions to provide on-campus, at-home, and ongoing COVID testing to all Great Hearts faculty and staff throughout the 2020-2021 school year. As a part of this partnership, testing is also available to Great Hearts families.

The test administered will be the PCR anterior nares test, which is non-invasive and quick. Tests will be processed at Premier’s local lab with results provided directly to a personalized and private patient portal no more than 72 hours after administered.

To participate in this testing, we recommend that you pre-register to make the day-of testing process as quick as possible for you. Please click here to find out more information on how to navigate the pre-registration process and other details that you need to be aware of to participate. The form will need to be completed for each person within your household that will be getting tested.
