Updates from the Headmaster

A Letter from the Headmaster

Gladiator Families,

Thank you for taking the time to complete our surveys and provide feedback! As of November 12th, we have had 135 families complete our Quarter 1 family survey and our Semester 2 family survey. Our administrative team will use this data and feedback as we plan and prepare for Semester 2. It is our goal to support families with quality education and support our teachers as they balance their many responsibilities.

In general, most families who completed the survey are happy with their child’s experience this year (54.1 NPS) – this is incredible! If you find that you are unhappy, it is important that we schedule a time to discuss your concerns. I also understand that the current satisfaction with our program hinges on changes that are yet to be determined in the coming weeks and months. I appreciate your patience and willingness to engage in this process with me so that we can create the best possible plan.

  • Satisfaction with NPX mitigation strategies
  • Feel their child learns best in-person
  • Social interactions and connections

Families who selected “Definitely/likely distance learning” cited the following:

  • A rise in cases
  • At risk family-members in the home

Families who selected “Unsure” cited the following:

  • Would like more flexibility to change quarterly
  • Too much uncertainty with COVID
  • It is difficult to commit to the unknown

Throughout this year we have also surveyed our teachers and met with them regularly to discuss and hear their concerns. Here are a few of those responses.

As you can see by this data, teachers are citing higher stress and some difficulty with adapting to hybrid teaching. Teachers feel that they are not their best selves in this environment, but they are committed to our students and feel supported in this mission.

As we approach more uncertainty in the coming months I could not be more grateful to work with such an incredible team of teachers and administrators and I could not be more grateful for each family that has stood by our side and been our advocate and ally during this incredibly challenging time.

Gladiator strong,

Corinne Jacobson

Donations for the Senior Silent Auction

Dear North Phoenix Families,

Each year our seniors enjoy a capstone trip to Washington, D.C. I have had the privilege of being a chaperone on one of these trips and I can attest to its powerful impact to our students. Watching students navigate the subway system, visit Arlington Cemetery, engross themselves in the Holocaust museum, cry before the Korean War Memorial, re-enact at Gettysburg, and see the various monuments bring them closer to each other and to humanity.

In order to help make this trip a reality for our seniors we need your help. The Senior Trip Committee will host a virtual silent auction where you can bid on items from the comfort of your home. The proceeds from the event will directly benefit the senior class. Here is how you can help:

  • Donate an item for the auction! Previous donations have included items from your personal small business, orthodontic sessions, timeshares, tickets to sporting events, and event packages. If you would like to donate items, or have any questions about the auction, please contact Josh Miller.
  •  Purchase an item from the auction! The auction will go live during the week of November 16th. Stay tuned!

This year our silent auction has expanded to include our Community Investment Campaign and our Tax Credit Campaign. If you donate your tax credit (donate here) during the auction you will be entered into a drawing for:

  • Athletics swag bag (valued at $100)

If you contribute to our Community Investment Campaign during the auction you will be entered to win:

  • Fine Arts basket put together by our Prep and Archway Fine Arts faculty.

If you have questions about either of these campaigns, please reach out to Jackie Curtis.

Sincerely,

Ms. Jacobson

College Counseling Corner

Student Feature

Richie Johnston

How has the college counseling department at NPX supported your post-secondary plans?

From the summer before senior year started, Mrs. Martin and the college counseling department have been on top of things. They have worked tirelessly to help the senior class prepare for the next step in education. Countless one-on-one meetings and multiple workshops have helped me, and many of the seniors, prepare and undergo the college-application process. Because of this, I was able to be well prepared for the inevitable stress that comes with this time period. I was able to take my time and make sure that everything was correct and still have time to spare. I truly enjoy the help that has been offered to me and I am happy to have utilized it to my advantage.

What is your major/minor you would like to study in college and what is one club that you are interested in joining?

I am interested in studying Exercise Science and Athletic Training with a minor in Business. I desire to compete in collegiate athletics, cross country, and track and field, however, I still want to involve myself in my campus by possibly joining a Catholic group.

As you prepare to enter your last semester of high school, for what would you like to thank NPX?

I would like to thank NPX for the great education it has given me and the multitude of memories that will live with me forever. I would also like to thank all of the people who have helped me at NPX–teachers and all of my friends that I have made over my 6 years. Additionally, I would like to thank all of the other people involved with the school for the support they have given to me and my class. The athletic program has also helped me to grow and become the person I am today. Thank you NPX.

Hello NPX Moms!

I am Katie Ingram, and I am the Chair of Mom’s Club for 2020-2021. This is our first year as a North Phoenix family and our daughter Mabrey is in the 5th grade.

As I begin to work with our whole campus and PSO to plan events for our club, I wanted to get your feedback and input. I would really appreciate it if you could take the very brief survey attached.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns or would like to be removed from future communications.

Great Hearts Updates

Hiring Alert

Great Hearts is always looking for qualified Special Education teachers. If you or someone you know is interested in a full-time position, please reach out to Ms. Jacobson.

Military Identifier Questions (Optional)

With the adoption of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), military-connected students are now recognized as a distinct subgroup, including students with a parent who is a member of the Armed Forces on active duty of such title. The Military Student Identifier (MSI) questions listed below will provide educators with critical information to personalize attention for military dependent children. Parents/Guardians may decline to respond to these voluntary questions. If a parent/guardian declines, the answer is reflected as a “no.” No parent/guardian will be asked to verify their military status by showing a military identification or other DOD documentation.

If your student is a “Yes” to any of the questions below, please email (Angie Nelson at anelson@northphoenixprep.org) with your student’s name and the question(s) you are responding “yes” to, so that North Phoenix Prep can accurately update the information in their system as needed.

  • “Is the student a dependent of a member of the United States military service in the Active Duty Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard?”
  • “Is the student a dependent of a full-time member of the National Guard, or Reserve force of the United States military (Army, Navy, Marine Corps or Air Force).”
  • “Is the student a dependent of a member of the National Guard, or Reserve force of the United States military (Army, Navy, Marine Corps or Air Force).”

We ask that all families respond no later than Monday, November 30th. If you have any additional questions, please reach out to your academy directly.
