| A Letter From the Headmaster
Gladiator Families, Thank you for choosing to be part of the Gladiator family during this historic time. In my nine years with Great Hearts I have never seen so much asked of our families, students, and especially our teachers. We have dramatically changed our approach to teaching and learning and have certainly all experienced our fair share of bumps and hiccups. Your partnership and feedback have helped us continue to do what works and adjust what does not. However, even with this feedback, we are struggling too. I have had to adjust expectations for the teachers and I ask for your partnership on this journey. Our teachers need to unplug, they need a break, and they need grace. This is the best group of teachers that I have ever worked with–they are strong, committed, and amazing humans. In order to provide our teachers with some sense of respite this fall break, please see the following updates: Evaluations this quarter will be succinct- two to three sentences describing your child’s current grade and progress. We will not complete student growth plans at this time. We have noticed that many students are struggling due to homework completion; please partner with us to ensure that your child is getting their homework done. We have many systems in place to ensure that they have access to the assignments, including utilizing Google Classroom. Conferences too, will be adjusted. Instead of each student presenting their growth plan we will instead have conferences on an as needed basis, organized by our Academic Dean, Ms. Jensen. You will be notified if your child will have a conference. Please reach out with your questions or concerns. Sincerely,
Ms. Jacobson Quarter 2 Return to Learning Survey Please remember to complete the Return to Quarter 2 Learning Survey by Today, Friday, September 25. Please note: You will need to complete the survey for each child who attends North Phoenix Prep (Archway students will receive a separate survey). Should you need more time to make your decision, please answer that question accordingly, and reach out to Ms. Jacobson or Ms. Stone for support. The Gladiator Team Draft is Complete! Please look in the mail (if you are a distance learner) or wait for your letter to come to you in class (in-person learners) on Monday 9/28 to discover which team you are in! Second quarter, we will be adding you all to your Gladiator Team Google Classroom where you will receive games and activities from your Lanistae to help you earn tickets for your team. You can also earn tickets at school when teachers catch you doing good deeds. The team with the highest number of tickets at the end of the year will win a prize as well as the pride of being the top Gladiator Team for the year. Provocatores is the team to beat. Go Gladiators! Thank you to our Community! We are so grateful for everyone who tuned in and supported the event; and so thankful for the student and parent volunteers who made this event a success. Thanks to our generous community donors from our sister school Scottsdale Prep, we are now the proud owners of a “loved” piano. Our music department thanks you all for your generous contributions.
Distance Learning Photo Reminder Attention distant learners, be on the lookout for an email from Dorian studios about class pictures instructions. Picture day is September 30 you will need to sign up on a specific time slot. |
